On August 21, Nikki was allegedly beaten, doused with a flammable liquid, and set on fire by her husband, Vipin Bhati, and his family. Despite being rushed to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi with 70% burns, she tragically succumbed to her injuries. Heart-wrenching videos recorded by her sister show Nikki being dragged and later engulfed in flames.

This dowry case Noida has also exposed Vipin’s violent past. In 2024, another woman accused him of assault and exploitation while he was still married to Nikki. Even then, Nikki and her sister had caught him with the complainant, leading to police involvement.

The demands later escalated to ₹36 lakh in cash and a luxury car. Years of torture forced Nikki to repeatedly seek financial help from her parents.

Neighbours recalled regular disputes, especially over Nikki and her sister’s Instagram reels. A panchayat had even intervened earlier this year, but Nikki returned to her in-laws after pressure from the community. Sadly, the cycle of abuse continued until her tragic death.

The arrests of Vipin, his parents, and brother mark a crucial step, but the case reflects a wider problem.
