France on Fire: Protests Shake the Nation After Nepal’s Political Unrest

From Nepal to France – The Wave of Rebellion

Nepal recently witnessed massive demonstrations that escalated into violent unrest, ultimately leading to the fall of the government. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli was forced to resign after public anger over corruption erupted on the streets. But it’s not just Nepal experiencing turmoil — Europe’s France is now in a similar storm. With widespread protests and political instability, the phrase France on Fire is no exaggeration.

Streets of Paris Turn Into Battlegrounds

On Wednesday morning, violent clashes broke out between protesters and police in Paris and other major cities. The movement, named “Block Everything,” has disrupted transportation nationwide. In Paris alone, more than 200 people were arrested. Masked demonstrators blocked roads with garbage bins and barricades, while in Bordeaux and Marseille, large crowds occupied intersections. Protesters hurled flares and bottles at the police, even storming the busy Gare du Nord railway hub. Officials warn that the violence could escalate further as the protests grow.

Political Crisis Adds Fuel to the Fire

The unrest comes just 24 hours after President Emmanuel Macron appointed Sébastien Lecornu as the new Prime Minister. Lecornu replaced François Bayrou, who resigned after losing a confidence vote. Bayrou’s controversial £35 billion austerity plan, aimed at reducing national debt, was deeply unpopular with the public. His downfall has left the political landscape unstable, amplifying the chaos already unfolding on the streets.

80,000 Police Deployed Nationwide

In an attempt to contain the crisis, the French government has deployed more than 80,000 police officers and security forces. Yet, the protests continue to intensify. Demonstrators are not only blocking roads and railways but also targeting oil depots, supermarkets, and petrol stations. Alarming reports on social media show groups encouraging looting, raising fears of even more violence.

Echoes of the Yellow Vests Movement

This wave of unrest has reminded many of the infamous “Yellow Vests” protests, which once forced Macron to reconsider his policies. Now, with France on Fire, the parallels are striking. The combination of economic frustration, public anger, and political instability has turned France into the epicenter of unrest in Europe.
