Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashes in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon; all 242 onboard killed

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft of Air India crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the death of all 242 people onboard. This information was reported by news agency AP, quoting the Gujarat Police Commissioner.

Air India flight number AI-171 was en route from Ahmedabad to London. Onboard were a total of 230 passengers, including 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and one Canadian citizen. The remaining 12 were crew members.

Former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, also died in the crash. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani shared this information on X (formerly Twitter), although he deleted his post shortly afterward.

The plane crashed into a building that houses doctors from Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital. According to reports, around 50 to 60 doctors were present in the building at the time of the crash, and more than 15 were injured.

Most of the bodies recovered from the crash site are so severely burnt that identification is extremely difficult. Identification will only be possible through DNA testing.
