Amid rising tensions with Pakistan, India’s air defence missile system has proven its effectiveness by successfully neutralizing several attacks. The Indian Air Force has credited its strong air defence system for intercepting Pakistani drones, fighter jets, and missiles.
Along with its existing capabilities, India is rapidly moving toward further strengthening its national security with the induction of advanced upcoming systems.
Air Marshal A.K. Bharti’s recent statement has highlighted the importance of air defence systems in securing India’s skies. He compared the system to a wall that Pakistan could not penetrate.
This statement underscores the critical role air defence systems play in national security, acting as a powerful shield in the protection of India’s borders.
India is soon set to receive three advanced missile systems that will further strengthen the country’s air defence capabilities. The deployment of these high-tech missile systems will significantly enhance India’s aerial security and enable a precise response to any enemy air attacks.
1.Akash-NG (Akash Next Generation)
With a range of 70–80 kilometers, this missile system is capable of destroying fighter aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles. Developed by DRDO, its functionality is similar to Israel’s Barak-8 system. Several successful tests were conducted in 2024, and it is expected to be deployed by 2025–26.
2. VL-SRSAM (Vertically Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile)
Jointly designed by DRDO and the Indian Navy, this missile has a range of 20–30 kilometers and can be launched from naval warships. It underwent successful testing from both sea and land platforms in 2024. It is capable of intercepting cruise missiles and helicopters.
3. QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile)
With a range of 25–30 kilometers, this system can neutralize drones, cruise missiles, and fighter jets. It features a 360-degree radar and an automated command-and-control system, making it a highly effective defence platform. Multiple successful tests were conducted in 2024.
These new missile systems will further strengthen India’s air defence and provide a powerful shield against aerial threats. With existing capabilities and these upcoming advanced systems, India is fully prepared to defend its skies. The deployment of these systems will mark the beginning of a new era in national security.
