US Visa: Big Decision by Trump Administration, Indians Will Have to Pay Additional ‘Integrity Fee’

US Visa: Cost for Indians to Rise as Trump Administration Introduces New Integrity Fee

For Indians, traveling to America is about to become even more expensive. The Donald Trump administration has announced a new US Visa Integrity Fee, effective October 1. The Integrity Fee will cost $250 (around ₹22,000). With this addition, the total cost of obtaining a US Visa will rise to about $442 (nearly ₹40,000). This fee will directly impact Indian travelers heading to the USA. Already, the process of securing a US Visa has become costly and time-consuming, and now, with this extra charge, it will become even harder for ordinary Indian families to travel.

Impact on Travel from India to the USA

According to the US Travel Association, the US Visa fee hike may further reduce the number of travelers from India to the United States. So far, a decline of 2.5% has already been recorded. Additionally, the number of Indian students has fallen by 18% this year, which is also a matter of concern for American colleges.

Declining International Students in US Universities

American universities have long relied on international students, not only for cultural diversity but also for financial stability. However, the Trump administration’s strict immigration stance and tougher rules have worsened the situation. Now, the new US Visa Integrity Fee may make matters even more serious, discouraging Indian students further.

US Visa Bond May Add Another Burden

Not only that, the Trump administration is also moving forward with a plan to introduce a US Visa Bond of $15,000 (around ₹12.5 lakh) to prevent overstays. This bond could apply to student visas, cultural exchange visitors, and media professionals. Tourist and business US Visa holders may also be included. A pilot project for this bond began on August 20. The aim is to ensure that people do not stay in the USA beyond their authorized visa duration.

Double Trouble for Indian Travelers

For Indians, both the new fee and the possible bond requirement present a double challenge. While the cost of a US Visa will reach nearly ₹40,000, if the bond is enforced, travelers may need to deposit lakhs of rupees in advance. This will not only affect ordinary tourists and business travelers but also deliver a huge setback to Indian students aspiring for higher education in the USA.

Experts believe that this move will negatively impact not just Indians but also the US travel industry as a whole. With fewer foreign travelers, hotels, airlines, and the tourism sector could suffer major losses.
